Memories

Today would have marked the 100th birthday of my great grandma Francis. This is weird because I was JUST thinking about her the other day at work. Here are a few memories I have of her and such:

1. She had the coolest house ever. I remember the room on the top floor had a window that led to the roof. I got in SO much trouble when my parents caught me up there one time but it was worth it. This picture isn't very good quality because I took it on my phone but this is me and my aunt Lisa in front of the house. 1991

2. She always had delicious ice cream. One flavor I remember in particular was strawberry.

3. She made the best dumplings

4. I watched the summer Olympics with her. I'm guessing it was 1996 when they were in Atlanta.

5. Being in the nativity with her. This picture is one where I was an angel and she was a shepherd but I remember getting to be an angel with her one year. Couldn't find the picture though :(

Pensamentos

1. The Peacock Theory is fascinating. We always want color instead of grey. (as recently proven by the singles ward)

2. It is possible to miss someone you don't know.

3. I'm the creep they sing about who drives by hoping to get a glimpse of someone.

4. This is the conversation I had with my mom tonight...
M: Can Grandma sleep in your bed this weekend?
B: Sure, I'll sleep in the spare bedroom
M: Well....Macy is sleeping in there
B: Oh.....
M: Yeah and Brenda and Jenn might come down too.

.....Basically I'm homeless for the weekend. It's fine.

5. Lately it's been proven to me everyday just how real the love languages are. I am blown away by how much love I feel toward people who show me my language and how much I can make someone feel loved by using theirs. It's completely mind boggling.

6. Why would anyone assume I speak Portuguese!?

7. I love the new Keane CD. Especially this song...it sure speaks to me!

June

That awkward moment when you get pulled over at midnight for not being able to stay in your lane and promising the cop your eyes look like that because you've been crying.

June, you guys. June.

Where would I be without Jackson and Disneyland??

Nanny

"There is something you should understand about the way I work. When you need me but do not want me, then I must stay. When you want me but no longer need me, then I have to go. It's rather sad, really, but there it is."

Closer

I should be asleep right now because I'm exhausted and I'm waking up in 5.5 hours but I wanted to share another song that I love. I've secretly dedicated a song to every person that I'm close to and this is one of my favorites (I hope you know who you are). It's by Brandi Carlile or "Queen Brandi" as I say. Enjoy!

Godspeed

I've learned that songs can be really mischievous. You know the ones that you've heard a million times but have never really paid attention to? Sometimes they like to sneak up in your shuffle and hit you like a bag of bricks!  They make you feel like you're such a musical wizard for discovering this amazing song when in reality you're an idiot for never paying attention to it until now!

Lately I've been hooked on this song that happens to be by one of my favorite artists. I've overlooked it for way too long. I'll even admit that when I finally "found" the song I shed a tear or two. It's not necessarily the situation she's talking about but I think I'm in this situation a lot: wanting to help someone but having no idea how or knowing there's nothing you can do. Anyway hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

"Things you don't say reach me somehow anyway."

ps  Doesn't she sound incredible live??

Cabin Fever

This song pretty much sums up how I feel right now. I've left the house for a total of 3 hours in the past two days and I'm going crazy.

Monday

Things I've learned/re-learned this past week:

1. Never underestimate the value of getting to know someone for who they are rather than who you assume they are.
2. You can never hug enough.
3. Get over your pride and call that person you miss because what happens if they never call you?
4. Take time to ponder the world. Yesterday morning I was driving somewhere I've been a million times when I realized I had driven three exits passed the one I needed. Guess I just got caught up in my pondering!
5. We all have people that we need. Sometimes we just don't want to admit it.
6. "In the absence of gratitude we all feel alone."
7. It's not what we take on that makes us great but what we give up.
8. Every hour of the day and night is an unspeakably perfect miracle.
9. Acceptance needs to be a two way street.
10. Love is always the answer, it's just circumstances that change.

Yes....another song

Roadside - Rise Against
Don't worry this is a calm one...even has a violin! (Lyrics posted below)
Tell me what I'm supposed to do,
With all these left over feelings of you;
'Cause I don't know

And tell me how I'm supposed to feel,
When all these nightmares become real;
'Cause I don't know

And I don't think you see the places inside me that I find you,
And I don't know how we separate the lies here from the truth;
And I don't know how we woke up one day and somehow thought we knew
exactly what we're supposed to do.

So leave me at the roadside,
And hang me up and out to dry;
So leave me at the roadside,
And hang me up and out to dry.

Skin

Today I miss having a tan.
Not the kind you get from boating or the tanning bed.
The kind you had when you were a kid from practically living outside.

Anna Nicole Smith and Other Thoughts

Do you ever have those days where your brain won't stop traveling at the speed of light? Well my brain has been on a real kick! Days like this are especially difficult because I'm usually alone to my thoughts all day and never get the opportunity to express them to anyone. Maybe it's because of my shoddy work/school schedule or maybe it's because at times I'm a lone wolf. Either way I'm using this as an opportunity to release some space in my brain for tomorrows workload!

Things on my brain:

1. Five years ago today Anna Nicole Smith passed away and left us alone in this world. I'm probably the only person on the planet that remembers this day because my roommates and I had a gum collection that we named "Anna The Gum" in her honor. Yeah it's pretty gross but we lived in a small town so get over it!

2"The only power people exert over us is the power we allow them to exert."

3. I hate that only the first 5 puffy cheetos you eat taste good. They start to get really weird after that! Has anyone else noticed??

4. The following sentence is grammatically correct, "Buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo."

5. My friend Hannah said, "The only way to cope with being tired is to not think about how tired you are." So true, right!? I think it applies to any ailment though. For example: I hecka strained my back last night. It probably wouldn't hurt this bad if I could quit thinking about it but dang is it doing a number on me! I definitely need to take it easy for a little while...don't wanna go down this road again.

6. I think I'm going to start having more free time after the next month or two so I've decided to need to start swimming. Way good workout AND it would help with my back problems as mentioned above. Win-freakin-Win

7. If I personally knew Ingrid Michaelson we would totally be friends. We just agree on so many things! Every time I hear the song "Once Was Love" it's on my mind for days. Seriously why do we always try to hold on to love that isn't there anymore? I think everyone has been guilty of this at one time or another. I particularly love these lyrics,

I gotta see if I'm filled up when it's only me
It's not your fault but you just can't be here
Now that my heart has gone

Just because there once was love
Don't mean a thing, don't mean a thing
Just because there once was love
Don't mean a thing, don't mean a thing!!

Well that's about all I feel like typing for tonight but there will be more to come. Good Freaking Night!

February 4th

So I know I haven't blogged in about 5 years but I had such a great day that I couldn't help sharing.

Today I got to celebrate two birthdays! The first was my little pal Suzy. I cannot believe this girl is already 7 years old! We've always shared a special bond that I've learned to cherish so much. We like to say it started before she was even born. When her mom was expecting (for some reason I hate the word "pregnant" right now), we would sing the word "cousins" and she would put her belly by me. I know my family is a little crazy but this must have been where our bond first started! I love this girl with my entire heart.

The second birthday was for my Grandma Marge. It was so fun to get together for lunch today because it seems I never get to see my family as often as I would like to anymore. She has been such a great supporter of me for the past 20 or so years. She has completely taken me in as her own granddaughter and for that I will always be grateful.
